Chinnar - Thoovnam falls

Thoovanam falls


I have seen this falls on the way from Udumalpet to Munnar its on the left side, the view was spectacular because we were on the top at the distance we can see these falls.

Saw the fb post by HATS with all the details of expenses, Shaju chetan also responded with the dates ie. on Sat & Sunday.  I was in a confused mood because I have done one trek and family trip, it was difficult to convince home again for a trek, but somehow I got the permission, so packing at 12 am alarm at 5 am because I have to reach Perumbavoor, Shaju Chetan, along with two others will be waiting there.

13.6.2015

By 5.30 am left home went to Kaloor bus stand got a bus to Aluva from there to Perumbavoor by 7.15 reached  Perumbavoor and started our journey on the Tavera.  The first stop was at Cheeyapara falls then moved to the next Valara falls, had breakfast and moved to to top of the Cheeyapara falls.  Stopped again for a heavy breakfast with pidi, chicken curry, pork, fish, birds eye chilli

Reached Chinnar check post at about 2.15 pm moved to the dormitory, kept the bags and by 3O’clock started our trek to the Chinnar watch tower the climate is very different here, North Eastern monsoon here comes in  Oct – December rainfall, so its was very hot and dry, on the way to watch tower we saw the Indian Star Tortoise climbed up the tower and saw the bordering areas of Kerala , Tamilnadu, returned back thru the banks of Chinnar and reached a place called Kootar where Paambar river & Chinnar river meets, moved back to dormitory had a small bath in the river, a small briefing  by the Chinnar forest officials.

Wake up at 6 am had tea and  were ready for going to the watch tower once again to spot some animals, climbed up and saw some deer. Came back to the dormitory,meanwhile we enquired about the distance to Amaravathi crocodile farm and planned to visit there as the group will be moving to  Alampetty the base for the starting trek to the falls only at 10 am.  So we moved to Amaravathi dam and crocodile and came back to dormitory at 10 am, the group  will be coming in bus so we reached Alampetty at about 10.51 and waited for the group they came by about 11.30.

When the group arrived we saw the giant grizzled squirrel cross the road, the ecotourism people have made a hanging bridge for crossing the road.After registration at the Alampetty eco tourism centre we moved at 11.55am  to the falls its about 1.30 hrs trek crossing streams at one point where we can go near the falls, this is will be possible only now during the monsoons Oct – December it would be difficult to cross the river, reached the falls at 1 pm. We were served with bannans by HATS group after that every one a had a cool thunderous massage in the Thoovanam falls, after a great time in the falls we moved to the Thoovanam log hut near the falls, four people can stay in this hut with a view of the falls at about Rs. 2500 per day including simple veg food.

After photo shoots and group photo by 2.20 pm started our journey back to Alampetty and reached there at 3.40 pm after tea had a small meeting and dispersed moved to Marayoor on the way we saw Gaur in enclosures have a great view of this animal at close quarters, reached home at 10.30 pm

There are somany treks & camps : anicent rock paintings is 1 hr trek from Alampetty,  Log house and Kootar, Pambar, Vyasapara ethnic hut, Jelli mala log house which can booked thru 04865 231587, the eco tourism guides informed that Vyasapara is the best in this
